Gundibail Shri Varadraya Kamath & Smt. Lalitha Kamath Endowment - Commerce Students (Udupi District)
LEGACY
Gundibail Shri Varadraya Kamath (“G. V. Kamath”) was born on June 16, 1933 in Nittoor, Udupi to Shri Anantha Krishna Kamath and Smt. Ratna Bai Kamath. He completed his education till 11th Standard at Christian High School, Udupi and joined Canara Industrial and Banking Syndicate Ltd. (later renamed as Syndicate Bank) as Probationary Officer in 1953. He married Smt. Lalitha Shenoy from Katapadi on February 21, 1962 and was blessed with three children – the eldest son is an electrical engineer and younger two daughters, a lawyer and a medical doctor by profession. During his employment at Syndicate Bank, he served at different branches in Manipal, Perdoor, Sholapur, Kumta, Hosapete, Basrur, Mangalore and Udupi. He demonstrated exemplary dedication to the banking sector and community development, and retired in the year 1991 from Syndicate Bank at the Regional Office, Mangalore. He attained sadgati on March 21, 2016 in Udupi.


Smt. Lalitha Shenoy was born on July 23, 1942 at Posar, Katapadi to Shri Hari Shenoy and Smt. Sakhu Bai in a large family with modest means. She completed her education till 5th grade at schools in Mulki and Katapadi. She got married to Gundibail Shri Varadaraya Kamath on February 21, 1962 and was blessed with 3 children. She was a dedicated housewife and a strong pillar to her immediate and extended families. She always had great importance for education as she did not have the means to continue her own education. She attained sadgati on December 9, 2023 in Udupi.
VISION
Provide educational scholarships to Grade 11/1st PU Commerce students and Academic performance awards to topper in Grade 12/2nd PU (Commerce)and B.Com final year students belonging to Gowda Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) families who reside in Udupi District. This initiative was launched on Nov. 24, 2024 at MGM College, Udupi.

The first part of this initiative provides 5 “Merit-Cum-Means” scholarships per year, each worth Rs. 10,000/ – to Grades 11 students belonging to the GSB community who reside in Udupi District.
The second part provides academic performance awards every year to GSB students residing in Udupi District who top the state-level final Grade 12/2nd PU (Commerce) and B.Com. degree exams. Each award consists of an engraved plaque and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/- for PU II student and Rs. 25,000/- for B.Com. student. These are one-time merit-based academic performance awards given each year at a specially organized Awards Banquet.
Participation in Gundibail Shri Varadraya Kamath & Smt. Lalitha Kamath Endowment Fund’s award and scholarship programs imply acknowledgment and acceptance of the following terms and conditions.
- The students who have received the scholarship are also eligible to receive the academic performance award if the selection criteria and eligibility requirements are determined solely by the Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC).
- Academic performance awards and scholarships are open to all GSB students living in Udupi District and are given only once each year i.e. There will be 5 students selected for scholarships and 2 students selected for academic performance awards based on selection criteria and eligibility requirements determined solely by the Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC).
- Applications submitted on the website only will be considered for all scholarship and academic performance awards. Any other sources will not be considered for scholarship and academic performance awards.
- If the application is successful for scholarship/academic performance awards, the Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC) might reach out to the applicants for any additional details/documents.
- Any willful dishonesty may render for refusal of the application.
- The Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC) reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the award and scholarship programs, or amend these terms and conditions, at any time without any prior notice.
- The decision of the Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC) regarding the selection of awardees and scholarship recipients is final and not subject to questioning or appeal. All decisions made by the committee are binding and conclusive
