LEGACY

Shri Hari Shenoy was born in 1900 in Katapadi, Udupi Taluk to Shri Narasimha Shenoy and Smt. Padmavathi Shenoy. He had two brothers and one sister. He studied till 6th standard and later got married to Smt. Sakhu Bai Kamath from Mulki and settled in Posar Tota. He was a passionate agriculturist and had betel leaf and betel nut business in and around Katapadi. He lived with his wife and ten children in a small house in front of Sri Venkataramana Swami (SVS) Temple in Katapadi. He attained Sadgathi in the year 1966.
Smt. Sakhu Bai Kamath was born in Mulki, Dakshina Kannada District to Shri Subraya Kamath and Smt. Saraswati Kamath. She had two brothers and one sister. She studied till 8th standard and later got married to Shri Hari Shenoy and settled in Posar Tota. She was a dedicated housewife, loving mother to ten children, and grand mother to many. She tried very hard to educate all her ten children and grand children, but due to poverty did not fully succeed in this endeavour. One of her sons, late Shri Shivaraya Shenoy served in the Indian military and fought in three wars for India – one with China and two with Pakistan. Smt. Sakhu Bai was very fond of her youngest son, Dr. Krishna Shenai, and always wanted him to be an accomplished scientist. She attained Sadgathi in 2000.

VISION

Provide educational scholarships and annual academic performance awards to Grades 1-10 students belonging to Gowda Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) families who reside in Udupi District. This initiative was launched on Nov. 25, 2023 at SVS Temple in Katapadi.

The first part of this initiative provides 10 “Merit-Cum-Means” scholarships per year, each worth Rs. 15,000/ – to Grades 1-10 students belonging to the GSB community who reside in Udupi District.

The second part provides academic performance awards to GSB students from Udupi District who top the annual 7th Grade and 10th Grade (SSLC) examinations, to those GSB students who secure State-level Ranks in the annual 10th Grade (SSLC) examination, and to GSB students who score the highest marks in the 10th Grade (SSLC) examination in three subjects: Sanskrit, Mathematics and Social Sciences. These are one-time merit-based academic performance awards given each year at a specially organized Awards Banquet. These awards are named to honor the outstanding teachers and mentors of Dr. Krishna Shenai who played a significant role in shaping his childhood education while he was a student at SVS Schools in Katapadi during 1962 to 1972.

Participation in Posar Shri Hari Shenoy & Smt. Sakhu Bai Endowment Fund’s award and scholarship programs imply acknowledgment and acceptance of the following terms and conditions.

  • One student will be eligible for only one academic performance award based on selection criteria and eligibility requirements determined solely by the Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC).
  • The students who have received the scholarship are also eligible to receive the academic performance award if the selection criteria and eligibility requirements are determined solely by the Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC).
  • Academic performance awards and scholarships are open to all GSB students living in Udupi District and are given only once each year i.e. There will be 10 students selected for scholarships and 7 students selected for academic performance awards based on selection criteria and eligibility requirements determined solely by the Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC).
  • Applications submitted on the website only will be considered for all scholarship and academic performance awards. Any other sources will not be considered for scholarship and academic performance awards.
  • If the application is successful for scholarship/academic performance awards, the Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC) might reach out to the applicants for any additional details/documents.
  • Any willful dishonesty may render for refusal of the application.
  • The Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC) reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the award and scholarship programs, or amend these terms and conditions, at any time without any prior notice.
  • The decision of the Endowment Oversight Committee (EOC) regarding the selection of awardees and scholarship recipients is final and not subject to questioning or appeal. All decisions made by the committee are binding and conclusive
